Founder & Managing Director | Discovery Pakistan Tourism Ambassador | International Cultural Promoter | Environmental Advocate | Heritage & Sustainable Tourism Leader Some careers are built in offices. Others are built on mountains. The remarkable journey of Mr. Nazim Ullah Baig began in the breathtaking valleys of Hunza, one of Pakistan's most spectacular mountain regions. Growing up among the mighty Karakoram Mountains, ancient Silk Road civilizations, and vibrant local cultures, he developed an extraordinary connection with nature, people, and adventure from an early age. Unlike many tourism professionals, Nazim's career started from the ground up. He first worked as a high-altitude porter on expeditions to the legendary K2 and Baltoro Glacier. Carrying equipment across some of the world's most challenging mountain terrain taught him resilience, discipline, leadership, and respect for nature. His passion soon transformed him into a mountain guide, followed by a cultural guide, where he introduced visitors from around the world to Pakistan's landscapes, history, traditions, and hospitality. These early experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong mission—to present the true image of Pakistan to the world. Recognizing the importance of education, Nazim pursued higher studies in Cultural Heritage and Tourism Management at Hazara University, Pakistan. His professional journey also included valuable hospitality experience at prestigious hotels, including Marriott Hotel Karachi, Pearl Continental Hotel Gwadar, and later as Director of Sales at Burj Al Arab Hotel, Islamabad, where he developed expertise in international hospitality, customer relations, and destination marketing. Driven by a vision to learn from the world's best tourism practices, Nazim moved to the United States of America, where he studied Tourism and Hospitality Management at Kirkwood Community College, Iowa. During his stay in the United States (2012–2017), he served as an International Student Coordinator, working with more than 200 students representing over 70 countries. His responsibilities included supporting students academically, facilitating cultural exchange, and helping international students integrate into American society. This unique experience broadened his understanding of global cultures, intercultural communication, international education, and tourism management. Living and working alongside people from every continent strengthened his belief that tourism is one of the most powerful tools for building peace, mutual understanding, and international friendship. After completing his education, Nazim made a life-changing decision. Rather than pursuing opportunities abroad, he returned to Pakistan with a vision to transform the country's tourism industry and promote Pakistan as one of the world's most extraordinary travel destinations. He founded Discovery Pakistan, a destination management company dedicated to showcasing Pakistan's breathtaking mountains, ancient civilizations, cultural diversity, religious heritage, and unmatched hospitality. Since establishing Discovery Pakistan, Nazim has successfully welcomed thousands of international tourists from around the world, creating memorable travel experiences while helping reshape Pakistan's image on the global tourism map. His contributions extend far beyond organizing tours. He has played a significant role in bringing leading international media organizations, documentary filmmakers, photographers, travel writers, vloggers, and journalists to Pakistan. Through these collaborations, Pakistan's positive stories have reached millions of people worldwide. Among the international organizations and media networks he has worked with are BBC, Al Jazeera, The New York Times, National Geographic, NPR, AFP, France 24, Japanese Media, Chinese Media, Russian Media, documentary filmmakers, international photographers, and travel influencers. These collaborations have significantly contributed to improving Pakistan's international image and promoting the country's cultural and natural heritage. Nazim has proudly represented Pakistan at numerous international tourism exhibitions, conferences, and travel trade events in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Japan, China, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates. At these international platforms, he has promoted Pakistan as a premier destination for mountain tourism, adventure travel, cultural heritage, religious tourism, and sustainable tourism development. A passionate environmental advocate, Nazim strongly believes that tourism must contribute to environmental conservation rather than environmental degradation. In 2017, he participated in the historic K2 Clean-Up Expedition, reaching an altitude of nearly 7,000 meters in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Islamabad. This initiative focused on cleaning one of the world's highest mountain environments while raising awareness about glacier preservation and climate change. He has also organized and supported numerous environmental awareness campaigns throughout Hunza, Baltistan, and Chitral, promoting responsible tourism, waste management, and conservation among local communities. His commitment to sustainable development extends into tourism education. In 2019, he led professional training programs for more than 200 mountain guides, trekking guides, porters, and tourism professionals, including many women, in Hunza, Skardu, and Azad Kashmir. These programs focused on guiding standards, safety, hospitality, environmental responsibility, and visitor management. Nazim has collaborated closely with students of Karakoram International University to promote environmental awareness and community-based conservation initiatives across Gilgit-Baltistan. His dedication to preserving Pakistan's rich cultural heritage has led him to work alongside distinguished archaeologists, including Dr. Abdul Samad and Dr. Muhammad Zaheer, supporting archaeological conservation, community museums, and the protection of ancient heritage sites. Beyond tourism, Nazim has become a respected advocate for regional economic development. As Director of Foreign Trade, Hunza Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, he has actively promoted cross-border tourism and trade between Pakistan and China. One of his major policy initiatives has been advocating for easier access for Chinese tourists visiting Gilgit-Baltistan through the Khunjerab Pass. His proposals, policy papers, and official correspondence with government authorities have contributed to national discussions aimed at opening new tourism opportunities and strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and China. Nazim is also a strong supporter of eco-tourism. He is the Co-Founder of Offto Resort, Hunza, one of Pakistan's pioneering eco-friendly resorts. The project was developed with sustainability at its core, utilizing environmentally responsible practices while creating employment opportunities for local communities, including both men and women. His commitment to local economic empowerment inspired another innovative initiative—the Hunza Organic Farmers Market, where local farmers directly sell fresh organic produce to visitors during the summer season. The market has become an important platform for supporting local agriculture, preserving traditional farming, and strengthening community livelihoods. Understanding that tourism also celebrates culture, Nazim launched the FACE Music Festival in Hunza between 2016 and 2018. For the first time, local musicians, singers, artists, and performers shared one stage, helping preserve traditional music while attracting national attention. The festival also created opportunities for collaborations with prominent Pakistani music platforms, contributing to the recognition of Hunza's cultural heritage. Throughout his career, Nazim has maintained strong professional relationships with international journalists, diplomats, filmmakers, researchers, universities, and tourism organizations. His work continues to bridge cultures and build international partnerships through tourism, education, heritage conservation, and sustainable development. He is deeply committed to promoting religious tourism, interfaith harmony, and cultural diplomacy through travel and heritage preservation. Over the years, he has organized and facilitated numerous Sikh pilgrimage tours to Kartarpur Sahib, Nankana Sahib, Panja Sahib, and other sacred Sikh sites across Pakistan, helping strengthen people-to-people connections and promoting peace through shared cultural heritage. In addition to Sikh religious tourism, Mr. Nazim Ullah Baig has played a significant role in promoting Buddhist heritage tourism in Pakistan. He has welcomed and guided senior Buddhist monks, spiritual leaders, scholars, and delegations from Bhutan, Thailand, China, and other Buddhist countries to visit Pakistan's ancient Gandhara Buddhist civilization, including the sacred archaeological sites of Taxila, Takht-i-Bahi, Swat, and other historic Buddhist monuments. His efforts have helped revive international interest in Pakistan's rich Buddhist heritage and have strengthened cultural and religious ties between Pakistan and Buddhist communities around the world. Mr. Baig firmly believes that tourism is one of the most powerful tools for promoting peace, mutual respect, intercultural dialogue, and understanding among people of different religions, cultures, and civilizations. Through his work, he continues to build bridges between nations by encouraging meaningful cultural exchanges and showcasing Pakistan as a country of diversity, tolerance, and shared human heritage. Today, Mr. Nazim Ullah Baig is widely recognized as one of Pakistan's leading tourism professionals and destination promoters. His remarkable journey—from a young mountain porter in the Karakoram to an internationally respected tourism entrepreneur and ambassador—stands as an inspiring example of determination, vision, and service to his country. His mission remains clear: to present Pakistan as one of the world's most beautiful, culturally rich, environmentally responsible, and welcoming destinations while empowering local communities through sustainable tourism, international partnerships, and responsible economic development. Tourism is not simply about visiting places—it is about building bridges between cultures, protecting nature, preserving heritage, and creating opportunities for future generations.
